Who is Bhagavan Vyasa?

Also known as Veda Vyasa, Krishna Dvaipayana Vyasa, or simply Vyasa Maharshi, he is considered one of the Chiranjivis (immortal beings) in Indian tradition.

He was born on the full moon day of Ashadha month—Vyasa Purnima—on an island in the Yamuna River. His parents were Rishi Parashara and Satyavati, the same Satyavati who later became queen of Hastinapura.

Vyasa’s name means “compiler” or “editor,” and it’s through his divine intellect that much of Vedic knowledge and epic wisdom was preserved and systematized.
